THE CUTTING EDGE
Jesus' solemn warning to all mankind, great or small, rich or poor, free or slave: "Anyone who rejects Me and persistently sets Me at naught, refusing to accept My teachings, has his judge however: for the very message that I have spoken will itself judge and convict him at the last day." [John 12:48; Parallel Bible, KJV/Amplified Bible Commentary]
Seeing that we shall be judged by the word of God, it would seem reasonable to expect those who say they are Christians to follow that word. But, as the scriptures warn us that there will be false teachers who "privily shall bring in damnable heresies". It seems that no matter what God says, Rome always goes the opposite direction. I've compiled a small list, but it almost seems endless, so this list is in no way complete. However, it shows that the heart of Rome is turned from the word of God to exalt her own words. When Israel's leaders caused the people to err by teaching them their own words above the words of God, Jeremiah rebuked them, but they refused to listen.
Furthermore, this practice reached even higher heights during the ministry of Jesus Christ! He was constantly rebuking them for their false teachings, which they called the Traditions of the Fathers. Jesus had some very terrible condemnations for this extra-biblical teaching, and especially for the way in which the priests were telling their people that these Traditions of the Fathers were equal with God's Holy Writ in truth and purity. Listen carefully to some of Jesus' condemnations of these Traditions, for the Roman Catholic Church has committed the exact same offense!
Matthew 15:1--9 -- "Then from Jerusalem came scribes and Pharisees and said, 'Why do Your disciples transgress and violate the [tradition of the elders]? For they do not practice [ceremonially] washing their hands before they eat.' He replied to them, 'And why also do you transgress and violate the commandment of God for the sake of the rules handed down to you by your forefathers (the elders)? For God commanded, Honor your father and your mother, and He who curses or reviles or speaks evil of, or who abuses or treats improperly his father or mother, let him surely come to his end by death. But you say, If anyone tells his father or mother, 'What have you gained from me [that is, the money and whatever I have that might be used for helping you] is already dedicated as a gift to God, then is exempt and no longer under obligation to honor and help his father or mother.' So for the sake of your tradition (the rules handed down by your forefathers), you have set aside the Word of God [depriving it of force and authority and making it of no effect]."
"You pretenders, hypocrites! Admirably and truly did Isaiah prophesy of you when he said, 'These people draw near Me with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but their hearts hold off and are far away from Me.' Uselessly do they worship Me, for they teach as doctrines the commands of men." [Parallel Bible, KJV/Amplified Bible Commentary]
Did you catch what Jesus said? He is rejected the worship of such a people who worship according to the Traditions of the Elders, because they are following the commands of men. Listen to Jesus again!
"Uselessly do they worship Me, for they teach as doctrines the commands of men."
How many Roman Catholic adherents steadfastly worship Jesus according to the false doctrine of Roman Catholicism, not having any idea that their zealous, heartfelt worship is totally in vain? The Apostle Paul lamented of this reality back in the days of the early Christian Church, speaking of the Jews who were persecuting the Christians. Listen:
"Brethren, with all my heart's desire and goodwill for Israel, I long and pray to God that they may be saved. I bear them witness that they have a certain zeal and enthusiasm for God, but it is not enlightened and according to correct and vital knowledge." [Romans 10:1-2; Ibid]
Poor Roman Catholic parishioner today are zealously trying to worship Jesus according to the false human teachings of the Traditions of the Fathers, totally unaware that their sincere worship is not "enlightened and according to correct and vital knowledge". Therefore, the words of Jesus echo down the halls of the centuries:
"Uselessly do they worship Me, for they teach as doctrines the commands of men."
The Jews of Jesus' day totally rejected His condemnation of the Jewish Traditions of the Fathers.
Don't be surprised if Rome reacts the same way!
BIBLICAL TEACHING VERSUS CATHOLICISM'S TRADITIONS OF THE FATHERS
GOD CONDEMNS THE JEWS FOR THEIR WORSHIP OF THE BABYLONIAN GODDESS, THE QUEEN OF HEAVEN: "As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not listen or obey you. But we will certainly perform every word of the vows we have made, to burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her as we have done -- we and our fathers, our kings, and our princes -- in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then we had plenty of food and were well off and prosperous and saw no evil." [Jeremiah 44:16-17]
One of the major reasons for the devastating physical judgments that God called down upon Israel in the form of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon when he invaded and virtually annihilated Israel was because the Jews insisted upon worshipping the Queen of Heaven. Catholics call the Virgin Mary the "Queen of Heaven", and for very good reason: she is simply a reincarnation of the pagan goddesses by that title.
On this note, let us study some of the instances where Rome's Traditions are in direct contradiction to the Holy Word of God!
|THUS SAITH THE LORD!||WHAT SAITH ROME?|
|1. Jesus is the Rock and Peter is "a stone". 1Cor.10:4 and Jn.1:42||1. Peter is the "unshakable rock of the Church" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #552).|
|2. "Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence." (Jn.18:36)||2. Pope Gregory VII drew up the Dictatus (a list of twenty-seven
theses outlining his powers as “Peter’s vicar”. Concerning worldly kingdoms,
they claim the pope has the power to:
"...dethrone emperors and kings and absolve their subjects from allegiance....” (Vicars of Christ: the Dark Side of the Papacy, DeRosa, 58).
|3."But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;" (Matt.20:25-26)||3. Not only does the Roman hierarchy lord it over the laity by exercising total authority, but they claim that they alone have the Holy Ghost and can interpret scripture, turn a piece of bread into "God" and forgive sins, making men prisoners to them.|
|4. Flee riches. 1Tim.6:11||4.Wealthiest religion in the world. (Read Vatican Billions, by Avro Manhattan)|
|5. "Howbeit in vain do they worship me,teaching for doctrines the commandments
of men. (Mk.7:7)
"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." (Col.2:8) Mk.7 Mt.15
|5. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, #82, "...Both
Scripture and Tradition must be accepted and honored with equal sentiments
of devotion and reverence."
The Question Box Column, Brooklyn Tablet, Nov. 8, 1958, teaches, “Tradition as a source of Faith would suffice without Scripture”.
|6. "But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking."(Mt.6:7)||6. Rome teaches her people to pray the Rosary, (a string of beads to keep track of repetitious prayers). The story of how the "Virgin Mary" appeared and gave the Catholic's their Rosary is a known and admitted forgery!|
|7. A doctrine of a devil to forbid marriage. (1Tim.4:3-4)||7. Forbids marriage to her priests even though Peter led his wife around with him in his ministry. (1Cor.9:5)|
|8. A doctrine of a devil to forbid meat. (1Tim.4:3-4)||8. Forbid meats certain days, and on Friday (6th day of the week).|
|9. Can regard a day or not regard a day. (Rom.14:5 Col.2:16)||9. New law demands one regard Sunday as the Sabbath and keep it, or suffer hell for all eternity.|
|10. Glory not in men. (1Cor.3:21)||10. They elevate men and women who they feel are "more holy" and pray to them.|
|11. Not to think of men above that which is written. 1Cor.4:6||11. Accept the titles, such as cardinals and popes, that cannot be found in the scriptures.|
|12. Fasting not to be seen by all. Mt.6:16-18||12. When Catholics fast the whole world knows it! How many "Lenten specials" have you seen advertised?|
|13. "I have not eaten thereof in my mourning, neither have I taken away ought thereof for any unclean use, nor given ought thereof for the dead: but I have hearkened to the voice of the LORD my God, and have done according to all that thou hast commanded me." (Deut.26:14)||13. They use 2 Macc.12:44-46 to support prayers and alms for the dead.
"He took up a collection, man by man, to the amount of two thousand drachmas of silver, and sent it to Jerusalem to provide for a sin offering... Therefore he made atonement for the dead, so that they might be delivered from their sin."
|14. "Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female...." (Deut.4:16)||14. "Mary" appeared to visionary Catherine Laboure and commanded that an image of her with the serpent under her feet be made. Rome complied rather than obey God.|
|15. No steps up to the altar. Ex.20:26||15. Always steps up to a Catholic altar|
|16. Levitical priesthood ends. Heb.7||16. Levitical priesthood continues.|
|17. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" (Rom.3:23)||17. Mary is sinless (Immaculate Conception, Catechism of the Catholic Church, #491-492).|
|18. No more sacrifice for sin. Heb.10:18||18. Continual sacrifice for sin.|
|19. Purged our sins “by Himself”. Heb.1:3||19. Rome teaches that men purge their own sins in the fires of purgatory (an imaginary place that cannot be found in the scriptures!) Mary is also considered a co-redemptress (which means she shared in purging our sins).|
|20. "They that trust in their wealth, And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him;" (Ps 49:6-7)||20. Rome's bible teaches that alms can redeem a man. Tobias 4:10 "For almsgiving delivers from death and keeps you from going into the Darkness."(also 2 Macc.12:44-46)|
|21. "Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall
ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD
your God which I command you." (Deut.4:2)
"Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar." (Prov.30:5-6)
|21. "We confess that whatsoever new thing the pope of Rome may have instituted, whether it be in Scripture, or out of Scripture, is true, divine, and salvific;and, therefore, ought to be regarded as of higher value by lay people than the precepts of the Living God...We confess that the Pope has the power of altering Scriptures, or increasing and diminishing it, according to his will...We confess that the Holy Scripture is imperfect and a dead letter, until it is explained by the Supreme Pontiff and permitted by him to be read by lay people." (Confessio Romano--Catholica, Articles IV, I, and XXI).|
|22. "Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen....For the customs of the people are vain...." (Jer.10:2-3)||22. "It is interesting to note how often our Church has availed herself of practices which were in common use among pagans...Thus it is true, in a certain sense, that some Catholic rites and ceremonies are a reproduction of those of pagan creeds...." (Externals of the Catholic Church, 156)|
|23. “I believed, therefore have I spoken” (2Cor.4:13)||23. Vows of silence are made by different nuns and monks.|
|24. God forbids us to eat a live sacrifice "with the blood still in it".
"But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat." (Gen.9:4)
|24. Rome eats a pre-crucified "Lamb" with the blood still in it, "...the body, and blood, together with the soul and divinity...therefore, the whole and entire Christ...." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1374)|
|25. "Feed My sheep" (Jn.21:16-17)
"But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." (Matt.4:4)
|25. "It is said that we deprive the Faithful of the word of God, which is the soul's daily bread. We may answer this falsehood by stating that while, indeed the Scripture is our soul's daily bread, Mother Church proportions it to our needs. Just as parents do not give the whole loaf to their children, or a knife with which to cut it lest they injure themselves, so it is the duty of the Church, of the priest or the preacher, to distribute this spiritual bread of the word of God to the people in portions suited to their requirements. It is said that the word of God is the light of the world. Well, indeed do we admit this truth. But we do not place a lighted candle in a child's hands, lest he burn himself" (The Priest, His Dignity and Obligations, "St." John Eubes, 99).|
|26. "And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God...." (Mk.4:11)||26. Wrapped in mystery and appropriately named "Mystery Religion".|
|27. One sacrifice..once for all. Heb.10:10||27. "Not once...but a thousand times." (The Faith of Millions, by John O'Brien).|
|28. Call no man your Father. (Matt.23:9)||28. They call the priests “Father’ and the pope “Holy Father”|
|29. Do good to enemies. (Lk.9:52) Rom.11:||29. Rome not only has killed her enemies, but has granted "indulgences" (time out of purgatory) for the murder of "heretics". "At the Council of Siena, in 1425, a plenary indulgence was offered to those who took arms against the Hussites...Waldenes...Albigenses...." (Catholic Dictionary, 442)|
|30. Salvation is "not of works". (Eph.2:8-9 Tit.3:5)||30. They misuse James 2:26 to prove they must work for salvation.|
|31. "Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is,
to bring Christ down from above:)" (Rom.10:6)
"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." (Rev.3:20)
|31. "The priest brings Christ down from heaven, and renders Him present on our altar as the eternal Victim for the sins of man - NOT ONCE BUT A THOUSAND TIMES! The priest speaks and lo! Christ, the eternal and omnipotent God, bows his head in humble obedience to the priest's command" (The Faith of Millions, by John O'Brien).|
|32. "It is finished." (John 19:30)
Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him." (Rom.6:9)
"So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation." (Heb 9:28)
|32. "As Christ now makes ready to mount the Cross, the priest states
the full purpose of the Sacrifice which is offered for the salvation of
the church militant on Earth...this Lamb...now mystically sacrifices Himself"
(This is the Mass, Bishop Sheen, 96, 104).
So important is the Roman "Sacrifice of the Mass" that if for some reason a priest be
"...unable to communicate, another priest must take his place as soon as possible, and must consume the Sacred Elements in his stead. What sort of sacrifice would that be which was left incomplete" (ibid., 132).
|33."For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." (Heb.4:12)||33. "The Scripture indeed is a divine book but it is a dead letter, which has to be explained, and cannot exercise the action which the preacher can obtain" (Our Priesthood, 155).|
|34. Peter erred concerning church doctrine (Gal.2:11-14)||34. Pope is infallible concerning church doctrine.(Rome believes Peter is the first pope.)|
|35."And ALL THY CHILDREN SHALL BE TAUGHT OF THE LORD; and great
shall be the peace of thy children." (Isa 54:13)
"...But if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his." (Rom.8:9)
"Wherefore let no one glory in men. For ALL THINGS ARE YOURS; whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; and ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's." (1Cor.2:21-23)
|"The task of giving an authentic interpretation of the Word of God,
whether in its written form or in the form of Tradition, has been entrusted
to the living teaching office of the Church alone" (Catholic Catechism
of the Catholic Church, #85).
A letter from Pope Pius states:"...God has given to His Church a living Teaching Authority to elucidate and explain what is contained in the deposit of faith only obscurely and implicitly. This deposit of faith our Divine Redeemer has given for authentic interpretation NOT TO EACH OF THE FAITHFUL, NOT EVEN TO THEOLOGIANS, BUT ONLY TO THE TEACHING AUTHORITY OF THE CHURCH." (Emphasis mine)
|36. "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." (1Tim.2:5)||Mary is a "co-mediatrix" and the saints also can mediate between God and men. Roman priests (even if they are pedophiles) can mediate between God and men.|
|37. Jesus washed the feet of His saints.(Jn.13:5)||37. "All princes are obliged to kiss his [the pope's] feet.” (Vicars of Christ: the Dark Side of the Papacy, DeRosa, 58).|
|38. "For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come." (Heb 13:14)||38. Vatican is known as "The Eternal City".|
|39. Jesus is the head of the church. (Eph.5:23, Col.1:18)||39. Peter is the head of the church and "his successors [the popes]".|
|40. Mary had other children. (Ps.69:8, Matt.13:55-56)||40. Mary remained "ever-virgin" and Jesus was her only son. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #499, #501)|
|41. Eat at home before you go to eat at the Lord's table.||41. Fast before you partake in the Eucharist.|
|42. "Come now, and let us reason together...." (Isa.1:18)||42“Once he does so (joins the Catholic church), he has no further use for his reason. He enters the Church, an edifice illumined by the superior light of revelation and faith. He can leave reason like a lantern at the door” (Explanation of Catholic Morals, Stapleton, 76).|
SPECIAL NOTE ON POINT #28: Not only was Jesus a "once and for all sacrifice", but the penalty for crucifying Him over and over again as the Victim brought down by the priest for the Mass is severe indeed. Listen:
"For it is impossible to restore and bring again to repentance those who have been once for all enlightened ... if they then deviate from the faith and turn away from their allegiance -- it is impossible to bring them back to repentance ... as long as the nail upon the cross the Son of God afresh ... and are holding Him up to contempt and shame and public disgrace." [Hebrews 6:4-6; Parallel Bible, KJV/Amplified Bible Commentary]
As long as the Catholics re-crucify the Savior in the ritual of the Mass, the people partaking of that ritual cannot even be saved! Not only does the Catholic Church teach the false doctrine of "Salvation by Works", they further seal off an adherent from personal salvation as long as that person continues to attend Mass! Jesus continues to thunder down the halls of the centuries:
"Uselessly do they worship Me, for they teach as doctrines the commands of men."
As you can see, the Roman Catholic Church is teaching a doctrine that is totally in contradiction to God's Holy Word. This sin is grievous, for by the Words of God will every person on earth be judged on the Last Judgment. The very Lord Jesus whom the Jews rejected by their actions and their false worship shall be the very One Who will sit on the Great White Throne [Revelation 20:11-15] to judge them and pass eternal judgment upon them just before He casts them into the Lake of Fire.
Today's Roman Catholic parishioner is in the exact same boat; their zeal in following a religion that contradicts the Word of God and the very Jesus Christ Who spoke those rejected words, will sit in judgment on them with exactly the same eternal results. Oh, Catholic, will you not see the truth of which we speak, and turn from the Roman Catholic Church and its false teachings before it is too late?
In the name of Jesus Christ and with many of the same Christian words we use, you are being led down a false path that can only end in the Lake of Fire. Truly, the events of the day demonstrate that we are very close to the consummation of the ages.
Are you spiritually ready? Is your family?
If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, but have been very lukewarm in your spiritual walk with Him, you need to immediately ask Him for forgiveness and for renewal. He will instantly forgive you, and fill your heart with the joy of the Holy Spirit. Then, you need to begin a daily walk of prayer and personal Bible Study.
If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as Savior, but have come to realize His reality and the approaching End of the Age, and want to accept His FREE Gift of Eternal Life, you can also do so now, in the privacy of your home.
