TITLE: ARE GUNS THEREAL ENEMY?
Subtitle: We Have Met The Enemy And They Are Us!
Several years ago there was a ‘possum named Pogo which only existed in the mind of its creator, the cartoonist Walt Kelly (I think I have his name correct). This comic strip in the daily papers was largely political satire and was quite informative at times.
One of the immortal lines uttered by Pogo is what I have used as the subtitle for this article.
The most recent of the incidents involving children murdering children is still causing reverberations around the country and, as we have come to expect, more outcries are being heard condemning the wicked guns that were used. Let me ask you a question— what if I said to you that those who believe this nonsense should themselves be lined up and shot? Would this statement shock and horrify you? Why? Oh, I see—what I said is terrible, it’s…it’s…well, it’s just wrong! (And I certainly agree with you) But who or what says that it’s wrong—upon what basis can you possibly make that value judgment? To put it another way, what is the validating authority for your judgment? Is it the current social consensus? How do you know that this standard will be the same tomorrow, or the day after? Do you feel that it is wrong because it violates a Federal or state law?
So far as I am aware—at least at this present time—it is not illegal to hold such an opinion or make such a statement. So then, this being the case, how is it wrong? Because you think it’s wrong? What if I don’t care what you think? Moral relativism—right or wrong being relative, as one chooses to perceive it—and situational ethics, right or wrong determined by the particular situation, go hand in hand in much of today’s society. For you younger folk, I want you to understand that this is a relatively recent development and has not always been so. For many hundreds of years most of the great nations of the world based both their laws and their moral standards upon biblical principles and the Ten Commandments were literally the backbone of their judicial systems. Right and wrong were what the Bible said were right and wrong and the United States of America reached the zenith of her greatness guided by it. The Word of God served as our moral compass and was the ultimate arbiter in difficult decisions and ethical considerations. History will show that it served us well, but for reasons few seem to understand, our ship of state has slipped its moorings and is floating at the mercy of wind and wave. Prayer has been removed from our schools -- almost 100% of the largest and most prestigious institutions of higher learning in this nation were founded as Christian schools -- and intellectually dishonest men use as a smokescreen "the separation of church and state".
They know full well that our founding fathers sought to keep the state from interfering with the church and not vice versa! Our constitution guarantees us freedom of religion—not freedom from it! We were given a representative republic, a form of government in which elected "statesmen"—trusted representatives who would do what was right and not what was expedient—served out of honor and not for monetary gain. We have seen our representative republic degenerate into a democracy—rule by the majority—and history is strewn with the memories of past democracies because they survive only until someone discovers "largess from the public treasury". Morally, spiritually, financially, and governmentally "we the people" are huddled together on the bulls-eye of the target of Almighty God’s wrath.
What I propose to tell you is not popular today and, frankly, I doubt that many will even listen—but here goes anyway! The school shootings are but a symptom of our nation’s moral "free fall". Children of an affluent society in which there are no moral absolutes and no strong parental authority figures are the victims—both those who were shot and those who did the shooting! What can we realistically expect when children basically "raise" themselves? We use TV as a babysitter until they are old enough to sit in front of a computer and then allow them unrestricted access to the internet were even adults are captivated and overcome by unscrupulous scoundrels. If you think that your teens are fine just because they haven’t given you any trouble, you may be in for a very unpleasant surprise! Children today, by and large, do not have a healthy fear of their parents largely because corporal punishment has been deemed to be detrimental to their tender psyche. My little psyche got a blistered backside whenever I strayed from the "straight and narrow" and I actually treasure the memories of my parents loving me enough to discipline me. You might be amazed at how much the Bible has to say about spanking children. The Book of Proverbs contains the distilled wisdom of the ages on a variety of subjects and the discipline of children is definitely included.
For instance, we find the following:
"He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes" (Prov.13:24, KJV).
"A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent" (Prov.15:5, KJV).
"Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying" (Prov.19:18, KJV).
"The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly" (Prov.20:30, KJV).
"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old he will not depart from it" (Prov.22:6, KJV).
"Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child: but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him" (Prov.22:15)
"Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod and shalt deliver his soul from hell" (Prov.23:13-14).
"The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame" (Prov.29:15, KJV, emphasis mine) "Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul" (Prov.29:17).
I have very little patience with those who take exception with this clear teaching of the Word of God. We’re not talking about brutality here—this is the limited infliction of pain in order to insure timely obedience. Children are born with a will of their own and unless this will is quickly brought into line with proper parental directives, the child will eventually "rule the roost"! I teach that, "if you do this right, you will not have to do it often!" Loving discipline will pay great dividends in your child’s life—disregard it and you will probably live to regret it.
We now have the second generation of children who are the beneficiaries (?) of such notables as Dr. Benjamin Spock—the bachelor pediatrician, who, through his books, almost single-handedly revolutionized the rearing of children in this country. He knew about as much about raising children as a hog does about a side saddle, but that did not stop him from spreading his ignorance. Young and impressionable mothers—for some unexplainable reason—took to his ideas as if he invented motherhood! The results have been tragic because he codified what has become a mantra that children must never be spanked. I will be the first to say that some are much easier to discipline than others and rarely, if ever, need to be punished. However, some are "holy terrors" and even with spanking take a long time to yield their will to that of their parents. Actually I have been dumbfounded at the strength of will exhibited by two of my grandsons and came almost to the point of doubting the effectiveness of spanking where they were concerned. But the Bible knows what it is talking about (I never once doubted that) and now they are making great strides toward being properly disciplined and productive little gentlemen! Praise the Lord!
Youngsters with entirely too much time on their hands, too much money and too little responsibility are a recipe for disaster under the best of circumstances. Couple this with a near total lack of moral foundation, a nihilistic sub-culture, hell-inspired lyrics to mind-numbing music, the usual mix of drugs and alcohol, and then sprinkle liberally with the age-old conflict between the "big shots on campus vs. the nerds" and bingo, we have another excuse to totally miss seeing the woods for the trees.
In the period of time between the 1963 Supreme Court decision to outlaw prayer in public schools, until approximately 1990, statistics show the following startling increases in the types of undesirable behavior listed:
Pregnancies to girls 10-14------------+553%
Suicide rates for ages 15-24----------+102%
Alcohol consumption per person------+24%
Admittedly we must be very careful about drawing conclusions purely from statistical analysis, because statistics can be cleverly manipulated—but these figures clearly show an alarming trend and the correlation is, to my mind, evident. Unless the people of this nation wake up to the realization of what has taken place and make a significant effort toward reestablishing biblically based moral principles, we probably haven’t seen anything yet! There is an entire generation of these value-deprived children scattered throughout our country and only God knows what tomorrow will bring.
It is utter nonsense to blame these tragedies on the availability of the inanimate instruments used to take the lives and let’s use a ridiculous illustration to make the point. Instead of guns, suppose that these kids were using "Sports Utility Vehicles" to ram into small foreign cars—thereby killing the occupants. Do you suppose that society would hysterically call for a ban on SUV’s? No, that would be highly unlikely.
And yes, I know that the primary purpose for guns is killing and thereby hangs the tale. The perception of violence and the taking of life over-shadows any possibility of good in the eyes of many where guns are concerned. For them, the complete removal of guns from the general populace would be cause for celebration. But we do not live in a perfect world and there are other very serious considerations involved in this issue, not the least of which is the issue of self-protection. Hunting, target shooting, and other "recreational" aspects of the gun are important to many—but for the purposes of this article, we will refrain from debating them. The main issue—by far the most important issue—is the right to "keep and bear arms" guaranteed by the second amendment to the constitution. Why do you suppose that our founding fathers felt it necessary to make this provision? Might it have been to ensure that everyone had the right to hunt and target shoot and collect guns and thereby antagonize liberals? Of course not! These men knew from first-hand experience what it was like to live under a despotic ruler, an absolute dictator —one who forced his will upon the populace—and they also knew that freedom from tyranny necessitated the ability of the general public to fight back. Those who put their necks on the line to establish this nation were wise men and they knew something—a hard learned lesson of history—which is that GOVERNMENT IS THE POTENTIAL ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE! Our right to keep and bear arms is a precious safeguard against our own government becoming too big and powerful and oppressive! If you think that this will never happen, I advise you to do your history homework. It has happened time and again, and is well on the way to becoming a reality here in the good ‘ole US of A! This coming system is called the New World Order.
Adolph Hitler managed to confiscate the guns of the German people in his rise to power and he was prototypical of a dictator that can take over a country without firing a shot! Interestingly enough, when Germany was bombing England in the early days of WWII and threatening to invade them, the citizens of England were faced with a dilemma—their government had disarmed them during the 1930’s and they had nothing but clubs, hoes, and pitchforks with which to fight! The "outlaw wild-west gunfighters" of the United States sent them many shiploads of guns and ammunition that enabled them to arm their citizens and make Hitler think twice about his invasion plans!
It is a fact that Switzerland requires every able-bodied citizen, as a potential member of their army, to own and keep assault weapons at home and be able to use them proficiently. The entire citizenry is armed to the teeth, yet statistically they are among the most law-abiding people on earth. Why do you suppose this is so? Don’t they know how evil those guns are? As the oft-repeated phrase goes: "Guns don’t kill people—people kill people."
We are currently in the middle of a crisis that is ultimately going to decide the fate of our nation. Either we are going to wake up to the present moral/spiritual realities and take steps to correct them, or else continue to listen to the hypnotic strains of the "spin-doctored" propaganda emanating from the White House and continue burying our kids. The complete elimination of guns will not remove the source of the problem, it will only make killing less efficient! Unbridled rage, such as has been demonstrated in these incidents, will eventually vent itself through murder by other means. One pipe bomb detonated in a crowded gymnasium would doubtless kill and maim more victims than has happened to date. Are we going to outlaw pipe next? One does not kill a snake by cutting off its tail.
This entire sorry episode of the Federal Government trying to use these killings as a means to taking away our guns should be enough to wake up every thinking American today. Our government is Illuminist, marching in lock step with the Plan to enslave the entire world and then hand over this power to Antichrist. The time is getting very close to this occurring. Taking away guns will just make such subjucation even easier to accomplish! Remember, history has proven that the biggest, baddest enemy of the people's freedom is its own government, unrestrained in what it can do.
The appearance of Antichrist is nearly upon us. Your time for repentence is speeding by like a bullet train.
If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, but have been very lukewarm in your spiritual walk with Him, you need to immediately ask Him for forgiveness and for renewal. He will instantly forgive you, and fill your heart with the joy of the Holy Spirit. Then, you need to begin a daily walk of prayer and personal Bible Study.
If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as Savior, but have come to realize His reality and the approaching End of the Age, and want to accept His FREE Gift of Eternal Life, you can also do so now, in the privacy of your home. Once you accept Him as Savior, you are spiritually Born Again, and are as assured of Heaven as if you were already there.
