Billy Graham -- Past Warnings

For years, Cutting Edge has warned readers and subscribers to be aware of the subtle, but deadly, apostasy of the Reverend Billy Graham. Before we start on this current heartbreaking apostasy, let us quickly review these past articles:

NEWS1082 -- Both The Louisiana Masonic Family Web Site And The Official State Genessee Lodge No. 174 of Flint, Michigan, Report That The Reverend Billy Graham Is A Mason! -- NOTE: Cutting Edge printed out pages from these two sites prior to posting this article and will send them to anyone upon request -- Posted June, 1997

As you can see, we have been warning about inherent apostasies of Reverend Billy Graham for a good many years; however, when you read these above articles carefully, you will discover that Fundamentalist Baptist pastors had been sounding the alarm about Billy Graham in the early 1950's. Discerning people have been aware of the many spiritual and doctrinal problems of Reverend Graham for 50 full years now. As you will realize by studying Graham's past doctrinal disasters, his remarks in this Newsweek interview do not represent NEW thinking on his part, as some defenders are trying to insist; rather, these current remarks are simply repeats of earlier statements he has made throughout his career.

Yet, most people and most pastors are blissfully unaware of any problems with Mr. Graham, because their impression of him is solely based upon the little amount of time they see him offer a basic Gospel message on TV during his Crusades. However, when you do just a little bit of journalistic research, a totally different picture of Billy Graham emerges, and that is the Graham we are going to review in this article.

Doctrinal Disaster In Newsweek

NEWS BRIEF: "Pilgrim’s Progress: Interview with Reverend Billy Graham", MSNBC Newsweek, Week of August 14, 2006

"In the twilight, Billy Graham shares what he's learned in reflecting on politics and Scripture, old age and death, mysteries and moderation. A NEWSWEEK exclusive."

At this point, I will list the disastrous doctrinal points Dr. Graham makes in bullet format:

Does Not Believe Every Word, Jot, or Tittle Is Divinely Inspired

* "He does not believe that Christians need to take every verse of the Bible literally ... 'I'm not a literalist in the sense that every single jot and tittle is from the Lord',"

* "Debates over the exact meaning of the word "day" in Genesis (Graham says it is figurative...)"

* Wonders "whether the 'Red Sea' is better translated as 'sea of reeds'—which takes Moses' miracle out of the realm of Cecil B. DeMille" - NOTE: In other words, Dr. Graham is saying that he is not sure if God really did perform the Red Sea miracle as the Bible states. How devastating can this belief have on new and/or weak believers?

* Graham doubts "the actual size of ancient armies in a given battle.." Dr. Graham continues to cast doubt on the 100% accuracy of the Bible! He is severely eroding the faith of so many, many people. People's faith will not be based upon the actual Rock of Ages but upon the devil's shifting sand. This is NOT the Gospel, but it is the spirit of error of which the Prophets foretold would be a sign of the End of the Age.

Did Not Start Out As A Fundamentalist Preacher

* "Ordained as a Baptist preacher in 1939, he preached a conservative but not fundamentalist brand of Christianity with a style that took him to six different continents and into the company of 10 presidents."

Even in 1939, some people could see the beginning outline of Graham's doctrinal weakness. Even then, discerning people could tell he was not a "Fundamentalist", i.e., one who believes every word in the Bible is "God-breathed" and held literally to every Scriptural teaching.

Not Sure If People From Other Religions Will Get Into Heaven Graham's Love of God Becomes That Of A Doting Grandfather Who Cannot Bear To Punish Anyone -- Universalism in View Here

* "Belief in mystery is crucial to the Gospel Graham has preached for so long..."

"Mystery" teaching is spurious, because that is the name given to the doctrines of Witchcraft, the paganism of Roman Catholicism, and the secret societies. In contrast, Biblical salvation is crystal clear.

* " 'As time went on, I began to realize the love of God for everybody, all over the world' .... "

* "When asked whether he believes heaven will be closed to good Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus or secular people, though, Graham says: 'Those are decisions only the Lord will make. It would be foolish for me to speculate on who will be there and who won't ... I don't want to speculate about all that. I believe the love of God is absolute. He said he gave his son for the whole world, and I think he loves everybody regardless of what label they have'."

By using the word, "label" in this context, Dr. Graham is saying that he is not sure if Jesus will exclude "good Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus or secular people". Has Reverend Graham forgotten Jesus' bold claim on this issue? Listen:

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6)

The Apostle Paul speaks this truth a little differently.

"For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus." (I Timothy 2:5)

Thus, why doesn't Graham believe that eternal salvation in Heaven is only reserved for those who confess Jesus as Savior and recognize His blood sacrifice on the cross and repent of their sins as they receive Him? I guess Graham does not believe in John 14:6 because he does not believe that "every single jot and tittle is from the Lord' " ! Now, can you see how much of a wide, dangerous road is opened up when a person -- and especially a revered Christian leader -- deviates from Biblical Truth just a little tiny bit?

"...in Graham's view, only God knows who is going to be saved: "As an evangelist for more than six decades, Mr. Graham has faithfully proclaimed the Bible's Gospel message that Jesus is the only way to Heaven', says Graham spokesman A. Larry Ross. 'However, salvation is the work of Almighty God, and only he knows what is in each human heart'."

Another analyst understands:

"Meacham hails Graham's conversion (so to speak) on the primary issue of salvation as an enlightened ecumenism, when it's really nothing more than age-old universalism – the erroneous idea that all roads lead to God and we're all going to get to heaven one way or another. This is the 'I'm all right, you're all right' philosophy of the world. Well, if I'm all right and you're all right, then someone is going to have to explain the cross. ("Billy Graham's apostasy", by Tom Flannery, WND, August 10, 2006)

Mr. Flannery also hits on the Graham's use of the word, "speculation": "there's no need to 'speculate' about something that has been clearly revealed to the world by Christ."

Exactly! And, the Scripture we quote demonstrates that there is to be no speculation.

Jesus told His people of all generations exactly how they would know if another is truly saved:

"Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." (Matt 7:17-20)

One of the greatest fruits of a person's life is the religion to which they profess; therefore, we can say with Biblical certainty that any person who adheres to the Jesus-rejecting faith of traditional Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism is going to be lost for eternity.

As far as Graham's strong implication that a person's heart may be "good" enough to make it into Heaven without turning to Jesus Christ, the Bible says that no heart of man is good. No man possessing any "good" apart from Jesus Christ.

* "And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." (Gen 6:5)

* "For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing..." (Romans 7:18)

"The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly perverse and corrupt and severely, mortally sick! Who can know it - perceive, understand, be acquainted with his own heart and mind?" (Jeremiah 17:9; Parallel Bible, KJV/Amplified Bible Commentary)

Since the heart of man is "exceedingly perverse and corrupt and severely, mortally sick", he can neither save himself nor be so saved through another religion as to be "good" enough for Jesus to let you in His Heaven. Remember, Jesus makes the decision as to who goes to Heaven and who does not, for He warned:

"Even the Father judges no one, for He has given all judgment (the last judgment and the whole business of judging) entirely into the hands of the Son." (John 5:22; Parallel Bible, KJV/Amplified Bible Commentary)

Once again, Dr. Graham has flatly contradicted Jesus Christ!

You see, in this teaching of Universal Salvation, which Graham is espousing here, each man gets to heaven by way of his own religion. For Dr. Graham, that religion is Christianity, so he is trusting in Jesus and His blood sacrifice for his salvation. But, a sincere Buddhist will get to heaven by "being good" through Buddhist principles, a devout Muslim will get to heaven by "being good" through Islamic doctrine -- and so on and so forth, to all religions of the world.

Eventually, everyone gets to the same heaven. This is the essence of believing God has "absolute love". Sounds good, but this doctrine is eternally deadly.

Tom Flannery has an interesting concept on this issue: "Meacham describes Graham's embrace of universalism in glowing terms, similar to the way in which media elites like himself celebrate Republican legislators who adopt liberal voting patterns over time as having 'grown in office'." Thus, the Newsweek article is entitled 'Pilgrim's Progress'. Get it?"

Even the title of this interview was specifically chosen to convey this false teaching. Remember, Scriptural doctrine is eternal and never changes over a person's life. In this article, Dr. Graham pictures himself as changing his mind over a period of time, whereas his son, Franklin, is more fiery and radical because he is still just a young man. Holding this view contradicts the eternal truth of the Bible which can never change.

Graham Does Not Recognize Inherent Evil of Islam

* "Graham says: 'I would not say Islam is wicked and evil ..."

Even though Islamic forces have slaughtered entire populations in history, Dr. Graham does not think the religion is wicked and evil. Even though Muslims are blowing up men, women, and children throughout the Middle East, Graham does not think the religion is evil. Yet, just a brief study of the Koran reveals the wickedness and the evil of this religion (Read NEWS1556).

Way of Life Analysis of Dr. Graham's Comments In Newsweek

NEWS BRIEF: "BILLY GRAHAM CONFIRMS HIS OPINION THAT UNBELIEVERS MAY BE SAVED WITHOUT FAITH IN CHRIST", Way of Life, Friday Church News Notes, August 18, 2006

"In an interview published in Newsweek magazine, August 14, Billy Graham confirmed his misguided opinion that men might be saved without faith in Jesus Christ. When asked whether he believes heaven will be 'closed to Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus or secular people,' Graham replied, 'are decisions only the Lord will make. It would be foolish for me to speculate on who will be there and who won't ... I don't want to speculate about all that. I believe the love of God is absolute. He said he gave his Son for the whole world, and I think he loves everybody regardless of what label they have'."

"No one would disagree that God will make the decision about man's eternal destiny, but the fact is that He has already made that decision and has revealed it in the Scriptures. It is not speculation to believe the Bible. God does indeed love all sinners and Christ died to make it possible for them to be saved, but the other side of the coin is that only those who repent and trust Christ will be saved.

Nothing is more plainly stated in Scripture.

* "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him'." (John 3:26)

* " 'He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life'." (1 John 5:12).

* "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved'." (Acts 4:12).

* " 'And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned'." (Mark 16:15-16)

* " 'But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death'." (Revelation 21:8).

* "The second chapter of Ephesians describes the condition of every individual apart from regenerating faith in Jesus Christ. They are 'dead in trespasses and sins' (Eph. 2:1); they walk 'according to the prince of the power of the air' (Eph. 2:2); they are 'by nature the children of wrath' (Eph. 2:3); they have 'no hope' and are 'without God in the world' (Eph. 2:12). Without faith in Jesus Christ, there is no hope."

Without faith in Jesus Christ, there is no hope. Once again, Billy Graham breaks the hearts of those genuine Christians discerning enough to see what he truly means when he says what he just told Newsweek Magazine, and to realize that most of this shocking material he has said repeatedly in the past.

We hope and pray that Reverend Billy Graham is saved and on his way to Heaven, for many people have been saved through the inherent power of the Gospel he has preached. But, I am afraid Mr. Graham has missed the Biblical mark just enough the he will be raised to face Jesus and hear Him say:

"Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name and driven out demons in Your name and done many mighty works in Your name? And then I will say to them openly (publicly), I never knew you; depart from Me, you who act wickedly [disregarding My commands]." (Matthew 7:21-23; Parallel Bible, KJV/Amplified Bible Commentary)

Dr. Graham has spoken wickedly. He has potentially deceived many. Remember the Apostle Paul warned that such spiritual deception would characterize the End of the Age: "Let no one deceive or beguile you in any way, for that day will not come except the apostasy comes first unless the predicted great falling away of those who have professed to be Christians has come], and the man of lawlessness (sin) is revealed, who is the son of doom, of perdition." (2 Thessalonians 2:3; Parallel Bible, KJV/Amplified Bible Commentary)

Unfortunately, Reverend Graham has been leading the way into this "apostasy", that "predicted great falling away of those who have professed to be Christians" for 50 years. Truly, this is the End of the Age!

Are you spiritually ready? Is your family? Are you adequately protecting your loved ones? This is the reason for this ministry, to enable you to first understand the peril facing you, and then help you develop strategies to warn and protect your loved ones. Once you have been thoroughly trained, you can also use your knowledge as a means to open the door of discussion with an unsaved person. I have been able to use it many times, and have seen people come to Jesus Christ as a result. These perilous times are also a time when we can reach many souls for Jesus Christ, making an eternal difference.

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, but have been very lukewarm in your spiritual walk with Him, you need to immediately ask Him for forgiveness and for renewal. He will instantly forgive you, and fill your heart with the joy of the Holy Spirit. Then, you need to begin a daily walk of prayer and personal Bible Study.

If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as Savior, but have come to realize His reality and the approaching End of the Age, and want to accept His FREE Gift of Eternal Life, you can also do so now, in the privacy of your home. Once you accept Him as Savior, you are spiritually Born Again, and are as assured of Heaven as if you were already there. Then, you can rest assured that the Kingdom of Antichrist will not touch you spiritually.

If you would like to become Born Again, turn to our Salvation Page now.

We hope you have been blessed by this ministry, which seeks to educate and warn people, so that they can see the coming New World Order -- Kingdom of Antichrist -- in their daily news.

Finally, we would love to hear from you.
