It seems evident that the Anti-Defamation League knows nothing about the Bible. If Mel Gibson's new movie is true to form, then it will not fuel hatred toward Jews. How can anyone with any sense of Scripture believe that it was the Jews who killed Jesus?! The Bible makes it very clear that Jesus gave his life it was not taken from Him.
It was God's will for Him to die for the sins of us all. Where would we be if he had resisted the Father's will? We would be lost without hope. Neither the Jews nor the Romans had any power over Jesus that was not given to them by the Father, as Jesus Himself stated. In John 10:17-18, Jesus says: "The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father."
Why should we blame anyone for His death but ourselves? He took our place! And let's not forget the matter of His resurrection! He is no longer dead, but ALIVE! I have no anger toward any Jews, Romans nor anyone else for Christ's death. That would be utterly ridiculous! I have only a profound awe and love for God, knowing that He sent His Son to die for my sins!
Isaiah 53:10 also speaks of Christ's death: "Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand."
The ADL is simply seeking to stifle the redeeming message of the Gospel, as are so many others in the world. Perhaps if they knew Jesus as Savior, and if they read the Bible as it is without "reinterpretation" then they would think differently.
