Tory grandee says PM May has ‘no idea’ how to pull Britain out of the EU

TORY grandee Ken Clarke has lashed out at Theresa May, saying she has “no idea” how to pull Britain out of the EU. He also claimed the Prime Minister was running a “government with no policies”.

The former chancellor rounded on the premier in the first vicious attack of her stint in Downing Street.

The grandee also claimed Theresa May was running a government with no policies.

He took the gloves off for her Cabinet too, hitting out at Mrs May’s squabbling Brexit footsoldiers Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, Brexit Secretary David Davis and International Trade Secretary Liam Fox. Mr Clarke fumed that their failure to agree over the best way to remove Britain from Europe was “dangerous” for the UK economy.

His rant comes ahead of the Tory conference this Sunday, where the party is expected to be split over a hard or soft Brexit. The division centres on whether we will have to keep our borders open to access the EU’s single market.

Mr Clarke fumed: “Nobody in the Government has the first idea of what they’re going to do next on the Brexit front.

“Serious uncertainty in your trading and political relationships with the rest of the world is dangerous.”

But Mr Clarke added: “Whatever is negotiated will be denounced by the ultraEurosceptics as a betrayal.

“She faces an appalling problem of trying to get these ‘Three Brexiteers’ to agree.”
