The articles posted below may explain one part of the reason oil prices are
being driven so very high!
As we detail the two major oil supplies, below, remember that neither of these alternatives were economically feasible until oil prices shot to about $70 barrel, right where they are today. Is North America driving oil prices this high simply to be able to develop these two resources?
Let us begin with a discussion of Oil Shale, which is concentrated in the Colorado Rocky Mountains on the North American continent. For those of you who have never heard of oil shale, let us first consult the encyclopedia.
OIL SHALE, From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Oil shale is a general term applied to a group of fine black to dark brown shales rich enough in organic material (called kerogen) to yield petroleum upon distillation. The kerogen in oil shale can be converted to oil through the chemical process of pyrolysis. During pyrolysis the oil shale is heated to 450–500 °C in the absence of air and the kerogen is converted to oil and separated out, a process called 'retorting'. Oil shale has also been burnt directly as a low-grade fuel. The United States Office of Naval Petroleum and Oil Shale Reserves estimates the world supply of oil shale at 1.6 trillion barrels of which 1–1.2 trillion barrels are in the United States. This is comparable to the amount of remaining conventional oil reserves."
As you can see, America contains most of the oil shale in the world, and our reserves are staggering -- 1.2 trillion barrels! The only drawback is that, with oil prices low, it has never been economically feasible to extract this huge quantity of oil. The answer -- drive prices higher, much higher.

"Since 1981, Shell researchers at the company's division of 'unconventional resources' have been spending their own money trying to figure out how to get usable energy out of oil shale. Judging by the presentation the Rocky Mountain News heard this week, they think they've got it. Shell's method, which it calls 'in situ conversion', is simplicity itself in concept but exquisitely ingenious in execution."
"Drill shafts into the oil-bearing rock. Drop heaters down the shaft. Cook the rock until the hydrocarbons boil off, the lightest and most desirable first. Collect them. Please note, you don't have to go looking for oil fields when you're brewing your own. On one small test plot about 20 feet by 35 feet, on land Shell owns, they started heating the rock in early 2004. 'Product' - about one-third natural gas, two-thirds light crude - began to appear in September 2004. They turned the heaters off about a month ago, after harvesting about 1,500 barrels of oil."
If 1,500 barrels of oil from a small plot of land 20x35 feet sounds like a lot, these statistics, below, will blow your mind.
"Upwards of a million barrels an acre, a billion barrels a square mile. And the oil shale formation in the Green River Basin, most of which is in Colorado, covers more than a thousand square miles - the largest fossil fuel deposits in the world."
If you were the owners of oil companies, and could realize such huge production from such small areas of land, wouldn't you be anxious enough to try to work with the politicians to force oil prices skyward? And, since politicians of both parties have always been very greedy for oil company campaign funds, the entire scenario seems ripe for drastic manipulation.
Now, let us review a similar situation in Canada, with their oil tar pits.

"The light oil of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East is cheap to pump and easy to refine. The heavy oil sands of Alberta have to be mined and then separated. The process consumes a lot of energy, but with oil nearing $75 a barrel, the world's oil giants think it is worth it. Operating in the Athabasca region near Fort McMurray are three companies: Syncrude, Suncor and Shell, in a venture with Chevron. Oil companies from Exxon Mobil to France's Total are expected to invest $75 billion to $80 billion in the next decade. "
"Some of the oil is heavy, but Syncrude pumps light oil that Mr. Stringham calls 'the lighter half of the conventional Texas or Alberta barrel. The light synthetic oil can feed existing refineries to produce gasoline and other products', Mr. Stringham said."
"Mining is used to reach most of the oil, but the bulk of it lies far below the surface. Getting at the bitumen that is too deep to mine requires complex methods. High-temperature steam -- about 662 degrees Fahrenheit -- is pumped down under high pressure into the deposits of oil sands. The tar liquefies and is pumped to the surface ... With oil at current prices, the companies are profitable, and the shares of firms such as Canadian Natural Resources and Suncor have been soaring on the Toronto Stock Exchange."
In conclusion, we feel it likely that one of the reasons oil prices have been driven so very high is to make these two alterative oil supplies economically feasible. There is "good news, bad news" in this story. The good news is that the Western world's dependence on Middle East and South American oil may be coming to an end. The bad news is that these high oil prices are here to stay, for you cannot begin to develop these oil supplies while oil prices are high, only to abandon them when they begin to slip. This means that the same plan which has driven these oil prices to their current levels has to, also has to contain the long-term plan to keep them at these levels.
II. When a comedian can bitingly "slice and dice" the President
of the United States at the White House Correspondent's Dinner, with an embarrassed
and shocked President sitting right next to the podium, you know that the
campaign to discredit President Bush has reach a new, higher level.
NEWS BRIEF: "Colbert Lampoons Bush at White House Correspondents Dinner -- President Not Amused?", Editor & Publisher, April 29, 2006
"WASHINGTON A blistering comedy “tribute” to President Bush by Comedy Central’s faux talk-show host Stephen Colbert at the White House Correspondent Dinner Saturday night left George and Laura Bush unsmiling at its close ... Colbert, who spoke in the guise of his talk-show character, who ostensibly supports the president strongly, urged Bush to ignore his low approval ratings, saying they were based on reality, 'and reality has a well-known liberal bias'.”
This comedy routine was brilliantly written so as to reveal the truth about President Bush and his policies, under the umbrella of comedy, a most effective method. Consider the best of the "one-liners":
* "He attacked those in the press who claim that the shake-up at the White House was merely re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. “This administration is soaring, not sinking,” he said. 'If anything, they are re-arranging the deck chairs on the Hindenburg'.” If any of you have graduated high school in the last 30 years, you probably do not know what happened to the dirigible Hindenburg, the pride dirigible of Hitler's Nazi Regime. Let us quickly consult the Wikipedia Encyclopedia:
"The LZ 129 Hindenburg and her sister-ship LZ 130 Graf Zeppelin II were the two largest aircraft ever built. The Hindenburg was named after the President of Germany, Paul von Hindenburg. It was a brand-new, all-duralumin design: 245 meters long (804 ft), 41 meters in diameter (135 ft), containing 200,000 cubic meters (7,000,000 ft³) of gas in 16 bags or cells, with a useful lift of 112.1 metric tons force (1.099 MN), powered by four reversible 1,200 horsepower (890 kW) Daimler-Benz diesel engines, giving it a maximum speed of 135 kilometers per hour (84.4 mph). * "Colbert told Bush he could end the problem of protests by retired generals by refusing to let them retire."
* "He compared Bush to Rocky Balboa in the “Rocky” movies, always getting punched in the face..."
* "Turning to the war, he declared, "I believe that the government that governs best is a government that governs least, and by these standards we have set up a fabulous government in Iraq."
* "Colbert also made biting cracks about missing WMDs, 'photo ops' on aircraft carriers and at hurricane disasters, melting glaciers and Vice President Cheney shooting people in the face.
* "He advised the crowd, 'if anybody needs anything at their tables, speak slowly and clearly into your table numbers and somebody from the N.S.A. will be right over with a cocktail'."
* "Observing that Bush sticks to his principles, he said, 'When the president decides something on Monday, he still believes it on Wednesday -- no matter what happened Tuesday'."
* Lampooning the press, " 'Fox believes in presenting both sides of the story — the president’s side and the vice president’s side'. In another slap at the news channel, he said: "I give people the truth, unfiltered by rational argument. I call it the No Fact Zone."
* "He also reflected on the alleged good old days for the president, when the media was still swallowing the WMD story. Addressing the reporters, he said, "Let's review the rules. Here's how it works. The president makes decisions, he’s the decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Put them through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know -- fiction."
* "He claimed that the Secret Service name for Bush's new press secretary is 'Snow Job'. Of course, the name of the new White House Press Secretary is Tony Snow.
* "Colbert closed his routine with a video fantasy where he gets to be White House Press Secretary, complete with a special 'Gannon' button on his podium. By the end, he had to run from Helen Thomas and her questions about why the U.S. really invaded Iraq and killed all those people."
There is no doubt that this biting comedy routine caught President Bush off-guard. He was most definitely not amused, in contrast with last year's dinner where he laughed uproariously when his wife, Laura, joked on and on about lewd sexual matters, including a joke about the President committing bestiality with his farm animals when still on the ranch (NEWS2033).
Whereas President Bush could laugh last year because he knew what Laura was going to say, this year, he was not laughing.
However, many representatives in the media were very guarded in their response, telling volumes about how the White House has the Mass Media thoroughly intimidated and is leading them around on a very firm leash.
NEWS BRIEF: "Colbert Reaction Shows Media Are Frightened Of Bush", by Joseph Watson, Prison Planet, May 3, 2006
"It wasn't the reaction of President Bush that interested me, nor the meanderings of Fox News. The way in which the media received Stephen Colbert's act during the White House Correspondents Dinner should set alarm bells ringing about the real state of the union. The attending press ... were frightened to laugh at Colbert because they didn't want to upset their boss, George W. Bush ... Colbert's expertly honed Neo-Con Bush worshipping performance was met with guarded silence at many points during the keynote address ... Subsequent reports on the dinner almost completely omitted Colbert's 30 minute speech, focusing instead on the 5 minute tedious two Bushes act, despite the fact that Colbert's performance was one of the most biting and revelatory satirical masterpieces in years, and Colbert had the guts to pull it all off right in front of Bush's face."
"In the aftermath of the dinner reports are emerging that Bush is on the warpath ... But if Bush is the 6-year-old with a temper problem then the media is the younger kid that he bullies. The yellow streak witnessed at Saturday's dinner mirrors the standard of journalistic integrity these whores uphold. Prostrate and kneeling before their imperial master, they once again fall in line to sell another war without end. When a satirical routine that mocks the President is treated with hushed tones and darting glares from the very supposed guardians of free speech, it spells danger for the ability to dissent in America ..."
Why should we be surprised to learn that representatives of Mass Media are firmly controlled by the political machinery in control at the White House for the moment? Didn't "The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion" reported over 100 years ago that the vast majority of the Press was already in their control? (Read the full details in NEWS2128)
The REAL marvel is that America has continued to enjoy the veneer of freedom even though the Mass Media has not been independent for over a century.
As we lead into the next segment, note that one of Colbert's biting points was that, as Press Secretary, he had a "Gannon" button on his podium. Of course, Jeff Gannon was the falsely certified press agent upon whom the Press Secretary could call for an easy question if the real questioning from the real journalists got too tough. Oh, yes, and Jeff Gannon was gay.
III.
With this "Gannon" fact in mind, let us review a brewing sex scandal
which may yet rock the Bush White House to its core.
NEWS BRIEF: "Cocktail Chatter With Clooney, Plame, Snow at D.C. Bash", By Joe Strupp, Editor & Publisher, April 29, 2006
"MSNBC conservative host Joe Scarborough, asked to size up the president's current political problems, said,“The common wisdom is that George Bush and the Republican party are in trouble. There is no doubt that if the Democrats take control of the House or Senate, the last two years for George Bush will be as difficult for him as the last two years were for Clinton.” In any case, he added, 'most people think Bush will not recover and investigations will continue for years'. The late-breaking 'Hookergate' scandal, he said, 'will keep reporters and columnists busy this summer'.”
Cutting Edge has warned repeatedly that this President is no "Christian" in his personal fruits and has surrounded himself with men who most definitely NOT Christian. This "late-breaking Hooker-gate scandal" is gaining steam. What is this scandal? That is the subject of our next article.

"WASHINGTON - Congress was abuzz yesterday over a shocking investigation of lawmakers that involves a top spy, limos, and hookers. Federal prosecutors are investigating whether contractors provided rogue former Rep. Randall "Duke" Cunningham with prostitutes as part of a bribery scandal that landed the lawmaker in the slammer. At issue is whether two government contractors gave Cunningham free limousine service and lined up hookers for sex trysts in Washington's Watergate Hotel."
"The brewing scandal took a new turn yesterday, as the CIA's inspector general said the office opened an investigation into the CIA's No. 3 official, Kyle "Dusty" Foggo. As the spy agency's executive director, Foggo oversees millions in government contracts."
Can you see how this "Hooker-gate scandal" has now turned from just a Congressional probe into the Federal Government -- the CIA? If any of the leads in this case turn into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, President Bush may be in for a very rough Public Relations battle.
IV. In the face of so many scandals lapping at his feet, President Bush must be hearing the "impeachment" chorus loudly and clearly.

Yet here we are, five years into the Bush presidency, and again impeachment is in the air. For some time, opponents of the Iraq War have been calling for impeachment. You could see their signs at marches, but given Republican control of the House, it was hard to take the idea seriously."
We have always stated this historic fact: it is nearly impossible to impeach a sitting President as long as his political party controls both houses of Congress. You see, the party in control of each house of Congress controls all individual committees, with both the chairman and a numeric majority of members. Thus, it is very difficult for a minority party to ram through Articles of Impeachment against a sitting President whose party controls those individual committees. Impeachment resolutions would never get out of committee.
But, this dynamic may be changing, if only changing the off-season elections in November.
"In recent months, though, impeachment calls have gained a new seriousness - and wider public support - and for good reason: This November, a shift of only 15 House seats would give Democrats control of the House and of the Judiciary Committee. Rep. John Conyers (D., Mich.), who would become Judiciary Committee chair, has already submitted a bill calling for an investigation into impeachable crimes, and would certainly welcome an impeachment bill."
"More important, over the last five years, Bush has become the Willie Sutton of constitutional violators. While the impeachment of President Bill Clinton for lying about sex was a case of frivolous political harassment, this president's many 'high crimes and misdemeanors' pose such a threat to basic freedoms, and to the system of checks and balances, that not to impeach would be irresponsible."
We find it rewarding that, finally, our years of warning that our basic freedoms and rights have been destroyed -- on paper with the Patriot Act and other attendant laws -- by this President and his Attorneys In General, Ashcroft and Gonzalez. However, before you get too enthused that Bush might finally be called to account for this terrible destruction of our basic rights and freedoms, remember that Democrats in Congress meekly "went along to get along", as most of them voted "Yea" even though few of them ever really did read the Patriot Act.

It was a lie when Bush told Americans we were at risk of attack in 2002 and 2003, and it was a lie when, on March 18, 2003, he wrote Congress to announce his invasion of Iraq, saying it posed a threat to America and was linked to 9/11."

The huge problem with this line of inquiry is that it assumes that America was really attacked by 18 Muslim highjackers on 9/11/2001, armed only with box cutters, but still able to carry out a nearly simultaneous commando operation in which four airliners were commandeered, and in which three of them were skillfully flown into their targets by men who had absolutely no experience in piloting such aircraft.

As you read this litany of the "High Crimes and Misdemeanors" of which President Bush might be guilty, and which might result in an impeachment charge against him, you must realize that the most important crime of all is not mentioned -- Killing almost one billion people and one million American soldiers by Depleted Uranium Munitions (Please read NEWS2118 for full details)
When the House of Representatives passed a bill of impeachment against President Clinton, they indicted him on the easiest charge to beat and, conversely, did not indict him on the most serious of crimes. At that point, I knew in my heart that the scenario was written which would acquit Clinton. Surely enough, many months later, a Masonic-led Senate acquitted President Clinton.
Likewise, if President Bush is indicted for "High Crimes and Misdemeanors", but is spared indictment on the most serious issues, can we expect that he, too, will be acquitted? As we have stated before, the Democrats seem to be hard-pressed to indict Bush on War Crimes, Genocide, because President Clinton unleashed a Depleted Uranium war against defenseless Kosovo in 1999.
