I. Mormon Mitt Romney won 6 states yesterday on "Super Tuesday" primaries, while Catholic Rick Santorum won 3.

Political pundits are saying that Romney did not land a "knockout blow", so Santorum will stay in the race.

"Mitt Romney eked out a close victory in Ohio but failed to land a knockout blow against rival Rick Santorum on the Republican presidential nominating contest's biggest night, raising the chances of a drawn-out battle between the party's establishment and its grassroots conservatives."

The last portion of this sentence is exactly how this contest between Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum is being portrayed now and will be portrayed right to the bitter end. Romney has received some very high-profile Establishment Republican endorsements as we have already noted; Santorum, meanwhile, is being portrayed as the "grass roots" candidate popular with the "little guy", especially with the Evangelical voters. Keep this fact in mind as we shall be returning to it shortly.

"Romney won six of the 10 state contests on Tuesday but his margin of victory was uncomfortably slim in Ohio, the night's biggest prize. Unlike previous contests, this year's "Super Tuesday" results failed to anoint a nominee. Romney methodically moved closer to the 1,144 delegates needed to win the party's nomination, but a strong showing by Santorum underscored the front-runner's continued inability to win over large swathes of the Republican base, who view his past as a moderate Massachusetts governor with suspicion."

"Romney's strong organization and robust fundraising operation make him the favorite to face President Barack Obama in November. Super Tuesday may not have delivered a decisive verdict, but it did move Romney closer to the Republican nomination."

This next news story illustrates Romney's problems with Evangelical voters because he is Mormon.

"NBC/Marist (polls) found that large numbers of Republicans voters — a range of 37 to 44 percent — in two of the states holding primaries on March 6 – Ohio and Virginia – and others that voted last week - Michigan and Arizona – do not believe that Mormons are Christians, or are unsure whether they are ... The polls found some correlations between those views and support for Mitt Romney, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the formal name for Mormonism, compared with his main rival, Rick Santorum, a former U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania best known for his unflinchingly religious conservative views on issues such as opposition to abortion rights and gay marriage."

Most Fundamental Evangelical voters have been taught from the pulpit and in Sunday School that Mormonism is a non-christian cult. That teaching has stuck hard and is a very difficult obstacle to overcome. Romney discovered this fact in his 2008 Presidential run and decided to withdraw until 2012, thus giving him four years to figure out a strategy which would neutralize this bedrock opposition from Evangelicals.

We believe Romney and his Establishment Republican supporters have discovered the winning strategy, which we shall shortly reveal. But, first, let us turn our attention to Rick Santorum.

II. Rick Santorum won three states on Super Tuesday by carefully fashioning his appeal.

Rick convinced voters he was "conservative enough" for them. He further strengthened his appeal to Evangelical voters who were did not want a Mormon to be President.

"Rick Santorum fashioned wins in Tennessee and Oklahoma by appealing to very conservative, religious, and lower to middle income voters. Abortion was a critical issue for him. Mitt Romney continues to run poorly among these Republican voters ... As in other Republican primaries, Mitt Romney simply does not get many votes from those who say they are very conservative. And large numbers of voters in both states described themselves as very conservative - 46 percent in Oklahoma and 41 percent in Tennessee. These voters form a strong base of support for Rick Santorum."

"Three quarters of primary voters in both states said they are born-again or evangelical Christians. Large numbers also said that it matters a great deal or somewhat that a candidate shares their religious beliefs. Santorum draws strong support from these voters."

Thus, you can see that Mitt Romney is still facing the same issue over his Mormonism that defeated him in 2008. Too many Christians in too many states refuse to be persuaded that Mormonism is Christian. Too many still believe that Mormonism is a counterfeit christianity. How does Romney plan to overcome this stubborn obstacle? He must have some plan or he would not have spent this much time and money running for President this year. What can his plan be?

I believe it is highly likely that Romney and his Establishment Republican allies, plan to use Santorum's appeal to Evangelical Christians as a support of Romney's candidacy. How can they do that, you ask?

A triumphant Romney could bring Rick Santorum on to his ticket as the Vice Presidential candidate.

Together, they would present President Obama with a very powerful opposition, so powerful it may just win the White House. A Romney/Santorum ticket would provide Evangelical voters with a real dilemma; do they continue to reject a Mormon candidate, or do they hold their collective noses and vote for Romney because Santorum is also on the ticket?

I believe most Evangelical voters will simply decide to vote Romney / Santorum because they cannot stomach another four years of President Obama.

We cannot be sure how this scenario will play out, but it does make a lot of sense as the winning strategy by which Mormon Romney wins enough Evangelical votes to become President.
