---------- This Weeks Hot News ----------------------"Depleted Uranium" Story Beginning To Hit Big-Time!

I. "Dangerously High Radiation Levels Measured Around Baghdad" -- Once again, a "radical", controversial teaching by Cutting Edge has finally been verified by Mass Media. Using secret sources -- a retired Army Major and a medical doctor from a foreign army -- Cutting Edge has aggressively taken the position that our own military force, plus Iraqi citizens, are being silently poisoned by our use of Depleted Uranium Munitions (NEWS1843 and NEWS1804). Now, a major British newspaper has broken the story.

NEWS BRIEF: "Dangerously High Radiation Levels Measured Around Baghdad", Mon Sep 01 2003 15:05:42 ET, EXPRESS [LONDON].

"SOLDIERS and civilians in Iraq face a health timebomb after dangerously high levels of radiation were measured around Baghdad. Levels between 1,000 and 1,900 times higher than normal were recorded at four sites around the Iraqi capital where depleted uranium (DU) munitions have been used across wide areas. Experts estimate that Britain and the US used 1,100 to 2,200 tons of armour-piercing shells made of DU during attacks on Iraqi forces. That figure eclipses the 375 tons used in the 1991 Gulf War. Unlike that largely desert-based conflict, most of the rounds fired in March and April were in heavily residential areas."

Other sources we have quoted months earlier place the real number of tons of Depleted Uranium Munitions at well over 3,000 tons; however, this article does tell us something we did not have officially verified before, even though we suspected it: "most of the rounds fired in March and April were in heavily residential areas."

Back in April, when I began researching this horrific reality, I asked this doctor working in a foreign army if it was possible that we would not only kill most of our own soldiers with DU residue, but would also -- over time -- poison the whole land so that human habitation might be rendered impossible. The doctor replied immediately, "Yes, it is possible, maybe even probable". Of course, to fulfill End Times prophecy regarding Iraq's (Babylon's) final destruction, that army which God has called from the far corners of the earth would have to not only seize the whole country, but destroy the whole land [See NEWS1804]. This London Express story goes a long way in verifying that the land is, indeed, being rendered unfit.

Let us now go back to this feature story from the London Express for more revelations:

"If inhaled, the material can attack the body causing cancers, chronic illness, long-term disabilities and genetic birth defects - none of which will be apparent for at least five years ...." [Ibid.]

While this span of time from the moment of poisoning to feeling the cancers and/or illnesses is usually true, our medical doctor who is so very familiar with the chronically dry areas of the Middle East, shed some very valuable light on how quickly our troops might be getting ill and dying. We quoted this doctor in our newsletter, August 16, 2003, but we feel the need to quote it again:

"The body of every soldier in Iraq is now being assaulted by the following elements:

In the daily campaign in Iraq, soldiers are breathing in the toxic Depleted Uranium, plus many of them are being constantly bitten by local insects. These two elements join the toxic vaccine already in the soldier's body. Because of the unrelenting, searing heat, nearly every soldier is dehydrated to some degree, thus allowing this deadly combination of toxins to build up to dangerously concentrated levels. Further, this doctor related how American scientists keeping watch over the radioactive poisoning of the Pacific islands at which France and the United States conducted nuclear tests several decades ago, are constantly finding mutated organisms that have never been identified before! Uranium poisoning in our soldiers is very likely mutating with these other elements to create strange and deadly organisms for which the soldiers have not been prepared to face.

The way in which these five elements combine to make the solider sick, or to kill him, will vary widely with each soldier. The age of the soldier plays a part, as does the individual genetic code, as does the health of the immune system. Thus, soldiers will be getting sick at various points along the time spectrum. Further, the exact cause of death will vary so widely that it will be difficult to prove any single cause. Some soldiers will die of pneumonia, some of internal organ meltdown, some of apparent heart attack, and some will die of maladies perhaps not yet seen in medical science."

The key elements to understand in this doctor's explanation are as follows:

And, let us not forget the Iraqi people. While they are more used to the heat, and will keep possibly themselves better hydrated than active soldiers fighting a guerilla, they will also eventually begin to come down sick and will ultimately begin to die. The original propaganda cover story in late May that Iraqi people had broken into a loosely guarded nuclear processing facility, looting highly radioactive barrels out of which they are now drinking water is not to be believed. One facility broken into and a few dozen radioactive barrels stolen will not explain the widespread sickness with which the Iraqis are soon to be afflicted. Additionally, the Iraqi citizenry is not so stupid to not know the dangerousness of the nuclear processing facility in their own backyard.

Finally, let us return to this London Express article for one more piece of startling and troublesome revelation.

"The Royal Society, Britain's leading scientific body, described America's failure to confirm how much or where they used DU rounds as an 'appalling situation'. Professor Brian Spratt, chairman of the society's working group on DU, said: 'The Americans are really giving us no information at all and think it is a pretty appalling situation that they are not taking this seriously at all.' [Ibid.]

As we researched the deplorably high rate of D.U. poisoning from Gulf War I (1991), we realized that Iraq had petitioned the United Nations on numerous occasions to provide medical assistance to her people who were dying of D.U., and whose babies were being born defective in such high numbers; in each case, American officials acted strongly to deny Iraq any specialized medical assistance, thus guaranteeing that the numbers of dead and dying would only increase dramatically. Of course, what should we expect from a godless Clinton Administration? After all, "ye shall know them by their fruits", Jesus warned us, and the fruits of Clinton were undeniably bad!

However, we should expect a "Christian" President Bush to act far differently. If our D.U. Munitions are causing such disastrous illness and death among our own soldiers and Iraqi citizens, we should expect Bush to seize the moment to throw clear light on the situation, extending all the assistance that various agencies and peoples are requesting. Yet, this article reports that our armed forces are refusing requests from international organizations to reveal the locations where we expended large quantities of D.U.! We have wondered how helpful this kind of information would be anyway, since the poisoned dust is picked up by winds -- large and small -- and deposited many miles from the original battle; however, the point is, we are refusing legitimate requests for assistance in cleaning up this deplorable mess. In fact, our American military continues to refuse to use our own resources to clean up the mess, claiming no evidence exists to "prove" that D.U. Munitions pose any health problems -- despite clear evidences to the contrary. Listen:

"A 1998 report by the U.S. Agency for Toxic Substances confirms that inhaling DU causes symptoms identical to those claimed by many sick vets with Gulf War Syndrome. The Gulf War Veterans Association reports that at least 300,000 Gulf War I vets have now developed incapacitating illnesses.("Gulf War Illnesses Affect 300,000 Vets," Ellen Tomson, Pioneer Press, www.pioneerplanet.com. See also American Gulf War Veterans Association at www.gulfwarvets.com., quoted in "Death By Slow Burn"].

This Express London article downplays the high death and destruction numbers that are possible. This article lied, saying that Gulf War I only saw about 5,000 soldiers get ill and only about 600 die from D.U., when the numbers from the Gulf War Veterans Association speak of much higher numbers. As Worthington says in "Death By Slow Burn" -- "U.S and British troops deployed to the area are the walking dead."

II. War with North Korea is now seen as more likely than ever, as the "peace talks" fail! As we reported for over a week before the 6-Way talks in Beijing began, America was doing everything possible to sabotage these talks. Former Chief Woolsey spoke about a week before the talks began, saying that negotiations were silly and destined to fail, with the implication being that we might as well go to war right now. Then, the day before the talks began, Charles "Jack" Pritchard, the US special envoy to North Korea, suddenly "resigned" from our negotiating team. Pritchard was a long-term diplomat, appointed by Clinton, who favored negotiations as the best way to avoid war. Since his position was so radically different from Woolsey's, it is not surprising that he had to go -- and he did, just one day before the talks began!

At the talks, both North Korea and America stiffened our positions, taking a stance both countries had held many months ago. Since these talks were only scheduled for 3 days, such a stiffening on both sides made it virtually impossible to reach any kind of compromise. As the talks broke up, American negotiators were speaking of the certainty of more talks in the future, but North Korea was speaking of the "next step" of testing a nuclear device so that the world generally, and America specifically, would know for certain that North Korea possessed the nuclear bomb. In fact, this may very well be the next development: actual testing of a nuclear device. Such a test would dramatically set the stage for the Illuminati plan for the Korean Peninsula during the World War III to begin. Remember the wording:

III. Taiwanese cities are conducting drills simulating a Chinese invasion! One of our subscribers is in Taiwan right now on business, and he wrote an email to us reporting that Taipei had just conducted a citywide drill for a Chinese invasion. We have not heard of this from any news media, so we appreciate getting this first-hand report. For those of you who are new to Cutting Edge, the planned World War III that will produce Antichrist is to begin in the Middle East, go to the Korean Peninsula, and then China is to invade Taiwan. Indeed, this island economic superpower has great reason to fear, and to expect, a Chinese invasion sooner rather than later, as the following news stories reveal.

NEWS BRIEF: "China is planning to set up a combat airborne division closer to Taiwan: Paratroopers could reach Taipei within an hour", Space War, Aug 26, 2003.

"China is planning to set up a combat airborne division closer to Taiwan in response to the growing independence movement on the island ... The People's Liberation Army (PLA) is planning to set up a second airborne division, based in Hangzhou in eastern coastal Zhejiang province, reported the China-backed Wen Wei Po, citing unidentified sources ... the stationing of new paratroopers in Zhejiang could cut by half the amount of time needed to fly troops to Taiwan ... paratroopers could reach Taipei within an hour."

These "unidentified sources" are undoubtedly official Chinese military/civilian government, so the dirty little secret I learned in U.S. Army Intelligence probably holds true here: when a government admits they are going to produce a new weapon, they have already had it for up to 10 years. In this instance, this redeployment of Chinese paratroopers has undoubtedly already occurred. Taiwan is in great danger, as this next story reveals; remember, when a military force is getting ready to launch an attack, it must shift from peace-time to war-time. The organization needed to run the military force is not adequate to conduct an aggressive war campaign. Thus, military intelligence services of every nation are always alert to organizational changes in an enemy force. China greatly reorganized its military recently.

NEWS BRIEF: "China puts air force and navy generals in key posts: By tapping officials with air and coastal warfare experience, it is positioning itself for any battle over Taiwan Strait", The Straits Times, By Oliver Chou, August 16, 2003.

"CHINA has stepped up preparations for any battle over the Taiwan Strait by moving several generals with experience in air and coastal operations to key positions ... The implications are obvious: Should hostilities break out over the Taiwan Strait, it is the air force and navy of the People's Liberation Army that will do most of the fighting.' Observers say the shuffling is to enhance inter-region and inter-services coordination, all in preparation for any fighting over the strait."

Just as events in the Middle East seem to be heading for a sooner rather than later climax, this third war planned as part of World War III seems to be getting ready for action.

IV. As predicted, both Israel and the official Palestinian Authority are backing away from a final battle. When the horrific Jerusalem bus slaughter was carried out by a Palestinian homicide terrorist, great pressure came to bear on Israel to begin a military campaign that would finally force Arafat from office and annihilate the terrorist infrastructure that Arafat had so carefully and methodically put in place. We predicted, however, that both Israel and the Palestinian Authority would back away from final confrontation until the timing as planned by the Illuminati was finally reached.

In NEWS1849, we revealed that Arafat had been following an Illuminati timetable that evidently began in September 13, 1993. That date was the time in which Israel's Prime Minister Rabin signed the Oslo Accords with Arafat in the White House Rose Garden with President Clinton looking on approvingly. That date was the third day of the Jewish New Year in 1993. On September 29, 2000, Arafat began his 33-month Intifada, which was the third day of the Jewish New Year for that year. On June 29, 3004, Arafat announced a 3-month "Hudna" ceasefire which expires September 29, the third day of the Jewish New Year for 2003!

Thus, we believe that nothing major will occur until September 29. All movement toward all-out war will be officially resisted until that date. Now, we are not predicting anything to occur on September 29, this year, but we are positive that major events will await that date to begin to unfold.

The events this week seemed to bear out this belief. While individual terrorist attacks occurred, and while Israel continued to assassinate key terrorist leaders, Arafat and his boys exerted a major effort to keep the official lid on the situation. Israel also began to talk to the Palestinian Authority using back-channel means, all in a major effort to keep official Israel from war with the official Palestinian Authority.

V. War with Iran over her nuclear arsenal seemed to take a strong step forward this week. DEBKAfile Intelligence reported the Russia had rushed sensitive, critical components for a nuclear processing capability into Iran using its own unmarked military transport aircraft. Listen:

NEWS BRIEF: "Russia Sells Iran AVLIS System for Advanced Uranium Enrichment", DEBKAfile Exclusive Report, August 28, 2003.

"The Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency – IAEA – put out a disturbing report this week confirming earlier DEBKAfile revelations that traces of uranium enrichment activity were found in samples at Natanz nuclear facility in Iran, 290 km south of Tehran, evidence that Iran was in the process of building a nuclear arsenal ... in the second week of July Russia secretly delivered the components of the AVLIS (atomic vapor laser isotope separator) system aboard unmarked military transports."

Thus, we are led to believe that Iran is closer that we had originally believed to developing her own nuclear weapons. Israel has been loudly proclaiming these days that Iran is the largest and most potent threat in the Middle East and must be dealt with sooner rather than later; Israel is even reported to be considering her own pre-emptive strike against Iran's nuclear processing plant. Iran was one of the original three "Axis of Evil" nations proclaimed in mid-2002 by President Bush [NEWS1750]. As the Middle East goes up in the flames of war, prepare for the probability that Iran is going to be drawn into this war; however, since she is listed as one of the nations marching with Russia against Israel at the End of the Age, we believe she is protected by this prophecy from actually being overthrown and being replaced by a moderate, pro-West, pro-Israel government. If the current Iranian government is overthrown, the timetable to the appearance of Antichrist will be set back considerably.

VI. War between India and Pakistan seemed closer this week because of terrorist attacks. In NEWS1794, we revealed the Iranian plan to "light many fires" within the Middle East as the major tactic that would oppose the American onslaught attempting to force "Regime Changes"; one of the wars described in this article is Pakistan - India. Several events occurred this week that are dramatically raising tensions.

NEWS BRIEF: "Clampdown at religious sites", smh.com.au, August 27, 2003

"India has stepped up security at religious sites after car bombs killed at least 48 people in its financial capital. Police suspect the bombs, planted in two taxis, were the work of Muslim groups ... Police said they suspected an outlawed Muslim student group working alongside Pakistan-based Kashmiri separatist organisation, Lashkar-e-Taiba ... The blasts were the worst in the former Bombay since 1993... A thaw in relations with Pakistan, following tensions which brought the nuclear rivals to the brink of war last year, is at a delicate stage."

India very nearly went to war with Pakistan last year when terrorists attacked the Indian Parliament building on December 13, 2001, killing several people. India and Pakistan are quarreling primarily over the disputed territory of Kashmir. India, Pakistan, and China all control a part of this key province; terrorism launched against India from Pakistani territory in the Indian controlled territory is threatening to send the region spiraling into war. While this attack was in Bombay, police are quick to suspect the Pakistani extremists. No one has yet claimed responsibility.

NEWS BRIEF: "Musharraf's Pakistani army breaking ranks", By Syed Saleem Shahzad, Asia Times, Aug 30, 2003.

"KARACHI - Ever since its creation in 1947, Pakistan's political landscape has been characterized by the military's deep involvement, be it through direct intervention and the imposition of martial law or behind-the-scenes manipulation of civilian governments. The present administration (General Musharraf) is no exception ... However, the army's role in politics has been dramatically shaped by the unprecedented events of September 11, 2001. The army under Musharraf has been forced ... to make decisions that have seriously split the armed forces ..."

"It is an open secret in Washington now that a delegation of senior Pakistani army officers, sent to Afghanistan prior to the US invasion ostensibly to convince the Taliban to step down, actually spent their time instructing the Taliban on how to protect their weapons from the impending US aerial bombing ... It is no coincidence, then, that the Jamaat-i-Islami is championing, with grim determination, a drive to have Musharraf step down as head of the (deeply divided) army ... the latest news of Musharraf's willingness to send 10,000 troops to northern Iraq (the Kurdish regions only) further aggravates the situation, as this is strongly opposed by many within the army who foresee Pakistanis as being used as cannon fodder by the US."

"The actual departure of the troops, then, could be the final straw for Musharraf, who has earned vengeful and powerful enemies in uniforms as a result of forcing the army to march to his own beat."

American intelligence has infiltrated Pakistan's intelligence like no other Muslim nation on earth, thanks to the intervention of Musharraf; we have listened so well to her inner communications that several assassination and coup attempts against Musharraf have been "nipped in the bud". However, militants within both the Pakistani military and intelligence have just been more angered than ever, and are learning to circumvent our bugging methods. The time may come when this pro-American nuclear Islamic power is toppled, with results that can be catastrophic. Nuclear arms under the command of fundamental Islamic militants might spread this planned war throughout the Middle East, beginning with a war against India.

Keep in mind that the controversy between India, Pakistan, and China is deeply rooted in End of the Age prophecy [Read NEWS1602]. Should India really take control of the Pakistan-administered area of Kashmir, both China and the Illuminati will suddenly find themselves in great prophetic trouble. China is most interested in Kashmir because of its Khunjerab and Karakoram Passes (Maps are shown on NEWS1602). This current potential conflict is entirely about the Korakoram Pass Highway. The major prophetic implication in this entire episode is that this conflict may enable China to fulfill some very major Biblical prophecies concerning the End of the Age!! Let us examine the pertinent prophecies, to see if these things might be so.

This incredible prophecy tells us that one of God's punishments is to loosen four great demonic "angels" which have been bound somewhere in the vicinity of the River Euphrates, probably in that extra-dimension in which angels and demons exist. These angels lead some great army of men numbering 200,000,000 [200 million] strong. We see that the 200 million man army will be allowed to kill one-third of the population of the world!! In other words, this 200 million man army will be well equipped with weapons of mass destruction. We consider weapons of mass destruction to be of three (3) types: nuclear, chemical, and biological. This unbelievable army, comprised of an unprecedented number of men, will possess the firepower capable of killing one-third of all the inhabitants of the Earth!

When you count their Militia, in conjunction with her active Army, only China can field an army of 200,000,000 men!! China has completed construction work on an all-weather road starting in China, going through Kashmir via the Karakoram Pass Highway, then through Pakistan and Afghanistan ["The Signature Of God: Astonishing Biblical Discoveries", by Grant Jeffrey, p. 198]. China and the Illuminati are very interested in preserving this road; if India were to go to war against Pakistan, China would inevitably become involved if India begins to prevail.

VII. After 34 months of forbidding Jewish worshippers to go on to the Temple Mount, Israel opened the Temple Mount area to selected Jewish and Christian worshippers. Arab reaction was immediate and extreme.

NEWS BRIEF: "Jewish Extremists Defile Al-Aqsa Compound", by Nazir Majally • Asharq Al-Awsat, Arab News, 27 August 2003.

"RAMALLAH, West Bank, Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas yesterday slammed Israel’s decision to allow 'Jewish extremists' to enter Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound as a recipe for more violence. 'This inciteful policy is a recipe for friction and violence,' Abbas said in a statement. “We all know the consequences of such action from previous incidents in 2000 ... the Israeli government is igniting the most sensitive issue in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict,” Abbas added. The Palestinian intifada, or uprising, erupted in September 2000 following a controversial visit to the mosque compound by the then Israeli opposition leader and now prime minister, Ariel Sharon."

The fact of the matter is that both Christians and Jews were allowed to visit the Temple Mount, beginning the 21st. Arab terrorist reaction was quick in coming.

NEWS BRIEF: "Palestinian suspected of attacking Jew on Temple Mount", Ha'aretz News, Monday, September 01, 2003.

"Police arrested Sunday night a Palestinian youth suspected of attacking a Jewish visitor on Temple Mount ... Earlier Sunday, police in Jerusalem expelled three Jews from the Temple Mount because they began to pray and bow down there."

Wow! The Palestinians are angry enough about the Jews "visiting" the Temple Mount -- like tourists? -- even though the Jews are not allowed to pray! This situation is frankly incredible, because the Jewish claim on the Temple Mount goes all the way back to King David in 1055 B.C. [Calmet, "The New Analytical Bible", KJV, p. 1451] The Jews' claim to the Temple Mount goes back for over 4,000 years of history, while the Muslim claim goes back only to the early 600's, A.D. Right now, the Israeli government is literally "bending over backwards" to accommodate the sensitivities of the Muslims, but when all-out war erupts, the Muslims can expect to feel only the iron fist of the IDF. THAT is prophecy [NEWS1705].

VIII. Progress was noted this week in several "Non-Integrating" countries this week. The premise behind this term, "Non-Integrating" is simple. Those nations who are not immediately able to enter into the global economy, government, and religion of the coming New World Order are either going to be invaded or threatened to be invaded. The Pentagon has drawn a huge line around all such laggard nations, and then regionalised them. Out of each "Non-Integrating" group a nation was selected to be invaded, hoping that the rest of the nations within the region would "get the idea" and immediately carry out those changes the Illuminati is demanding to make that nation a "Core" nation.

Thus, Iraq was invaded in the Middle East, while we have threatened her neighbors: Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and even Pakistan. Other smaller Arab nations in this region are expected to get the hint. For this reason, we invaded Liberia in Africa, counting on the fact that the leaders of the rest of this region would begin implementing changes immediately. Let us review some of the countries who announced dramatic changes that will go a long way toward convincing the Illuminati that they are worthy to NOT be invaded.

NEWS BRIEF: "GCC Insights: Qatar's gas industry scores big successes", By Jasim Ali, Special to Gulf News, 31-08-2003

"The gas industry, notably the liquefied natural gas (LNG) business, is helping transform the Qatari economy. In the latest moves, attempts have made to enter the British gas market for the first time besides taking steps to consolidate its position in the U.S. ... Qatar's North Field is the single largest reservoir of non-associated gas in the world ... Qatar has invested more than $15 billion on gas projects and is expected to invest a substantial sum in the years ahead. The fact is that the LNG business has been achieving extraordinary success, beyond the wildest imagination of industry watchers."

Note the speed with which this transformation occurred -- "been achieving extraordinary success, beyond the wildest imagination of industry watchers." Qatar is getting the message! And she is moving quickly to make changes.

NEWS BRIEF: "Diplomatic Despatches: The new Bangladesh that is taking shape", by Balan Moses, New Straits Times, August 30, 2003.

"It is a perception that needs to be dispelled,' says Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia, Mohammed Masood Aziz, of the nation often described as among the poorest in the world .... Prefacing his comments with the remark that he has a different picture to paint of Bangladesh, he rushes into an explanation that reveals the depth of his conviction and the reality of his perception. He eschews the popular belief that the relative well-being of a nation has to be measured by how much the people earn on the average (RM1,500 last year). IX. President Bush plays the "Grinch" to American wage earners. For over 60 years, American businesses have been required by law to pay time-and-a-half for overtime, thus ensuring that, before a company decided to work its employees over-time, its executives had studied to ensure that the income produced would sufficiently cover the extra labor cost. For the wage-earner, this law ensured that company's respected his/her time, and could not force unlimited work for regular pay. Since businesses have been dealing with this law for over 60 years, we can conclude that this law does not impose unnecessary extra burden upon the company that are unreasonable. Yet, businesses have been lobbying this Big Business friendly president to repeal this law, which President Bush is doing without going through the legislative process!

which requires employers to pay time-and-a-half for overtime ... According to the Federal Register (Page 15,576), where the Bush Administration likes to place
it's little gifts to major campaign donors, 2.7 million workers will lose their overtime pay -- for a 'benefit' of $1.53 billion ... Nevertheless, workers getting their pay snipped shouldn't complain, because they will all be receiving 'promotions'. These employees will be re-classified as 'managers" exempt from the law. My favorite of Chao's little amendments would re-classify as 'exempt professionals', anyone who learned their skill in the military. In other words, thousands of veterans will now lose overtime pay ... according to Chao's press office, the changes will actually extend overtime benefits to 1.3 million burger flippin' managers. How does that square with the billion dollar 'benefit' to business owners? Simple: The Chao hounds at the Labor Department suggest that employers CUT WAGES so that, with the new 'overtime' pay, the employees won't actually take home a dime more."

The issue is two-fold, in my opinion: First, business will begin to consider their employees' time less and less valuable, leading to the same kind of abuses in the early part of this century that led to this overtime law in the first place. After all, when something is either free or really cheap, a person does not appreciate it nearly as much as when it cost him dearly. Secondly, this dramatic change was accomplished by an end-run around our legislative process. Congress never took up the proposal and certainly never argued its "benefits" in public. This "end around run" represents the worst in "back-room politics" and certainly is not the way in which a born again christian should run his White House!

----------Conclusion------------------------------------Are There Shortcuts To Holiness?

It appears that most people go to church for consolation. In fact, we have now fallen upon times when religion is merely for consolation. We are now in the grip of the cult of peace- peace of mind, peace of heart, peace of soul, and we want to relax and have the great God Almighty pat our heads and comfort us. This has become religion.

This, along with one other item: The threat that if you don't be good the nuclear bomb will wipe out your modern civilization!

These seem to be the only two motives that remain in the wide world for religion. If you are not good, they warn, civilization will fall apart and the bomb will get us all, and if you do not come to the Lord, you will never have peace! So, between fear and the desire to be patted and chucked under the chin and cuddled, the professing Christian staggers along his way. My friend, there is something better than this, something that has roots.

A People of God

According to my Bible, there should be a people of God-they do not all have to belong to one denominational church-but there should be a people called out by the Lord God and subjected to a spiritual experience given by God. Then they are to learn to walk in the way of the Truth and the way of the Scripture, producing the righteous fruit of the child of God whatever world conditions may be.

They know that those who destroy the body are not important -- only those who destroy the soul. You can disintegrate a man, a saint of God, with a bomb and he is in heaven immediately with his Lord. The enemies of God have slain many Christians and sent them off quickly to be with God. They cast their bodies aside as unclean things, but the souls of those men and women were immediately with the Lord.

Then there is the matter of constant consolation and peace-the promise of always feeling relaxed and at rest and enjoying ourselves inwardly. This, I say, has been held up as being quite the proper goal to be sought in the evil hour in which we live. We forget that our Lord was a Man of sorrow and acquainted with grief. We forget the arrows of grief and pain which went through the heart of Jesus' mother, Mary. We forget that all of the apostles except John died a martyr's death. We forget that there were 13 million Christians slain during the first two generations of the Christian era. We forget that they languished in prison, that they were starved, were thrown over cliffs, were fed to the lions, were drowned, that they were sewn in sacks and thrown into the ocean.

Yes, we want to forget that most of God's wonderful people in the early days of the church did not have peace of mind. They did not even seek it. They knew that a soldier does not go to the battlefield to relax - he goes to fight. They accepted their position on earth as soldiers in the army of God, fighting along with the Lord Jesus Christ in the terrible war against iniquity and sin. It was not a war against people but against sin and iniquity and the devil!
There was much distress, many heartaches, painful bruises, flowing tears, much loss and many deaths.

But there is something better than being comfortable, and the followers of Christ ought to find it out - the poor, soft, overstuffed Christians of our time ought to find out! There is something better than being comfortable .. to bring out the likeness of Christ in the heart and mind of the redeemed man. That is the purpose of God - not to make him happy, although in that condition he is likely to be happy. ["Who Put Jesus On The Cross?", by A. W.
