I do not believe that the Egyptian command anticipated the stubbornness of supporters of President Morsi. The Muslim Brotherhood is proving to be a formidable foe, even against tanks and modern fighter aircraft. Of course, anti-Morsi supporters have filled the streets by the millions, also. It does appear that Egypt's population is divided rather evenly, just the recipe for a civil war.

"As the fighting continued throughout the day, several Coptic churches around the country were attacked and damaged in a possible wave of Brotherhood reprisals ... dozens of illegal firearms — including automatic weapons — had been discovered in the Brotherhood protest site."

"Minister of Interior Mohamed Ibrahim told reporters on Wednesday evening that security forces had followed orders and employed admirable restraint ... Ibrahim made it clear that the days of the Brotherhood occupying public spaces in protest had come to an end. “We will not allow any other sit-in in any square in any place in the country ... the Brotherhood protest sites had become a threat to national unity and a dangerous nuisance for area residents. “The sit-in has infringed the rights of all residence[sic] of the area, and has been building walls, accumulating weapons, using children and women as human shields, affecting extremely negatively the hygienic situation in the area and negatively affecting the life of the residence[sic]...' "

This impending civil war has produced a splintering of the Army's coalition, as former IAE Chief, ElBaradei, abruptly resigned.

"Egypt's interim Vice President Mohamed ElBaradei has announced his resignation after violent crackdown by security forces claimed hundreds of lives across the North African country. In his resignation letter to interim President Adly Mansour on Wednesday evening, ElBaradei wrote, “It has become difficult for me to continue bearing responsibility for decisions that I do not agree with and whose consequences I fear. I cannot bear the responsibility for one drop of blood.”

When ElBaradei assumed the post of interim Vice President, observers took that as a sign that the Army intended to use his diplomatic skills in calming Egypt down and defusing the conflict with the Brotherhood within significant bloodshed. However, the Army chose to use its modern weapons against civilian protesters, prompting ElBaradei's resignation.

"Parts of the capital Cairo now resemble a battle zone after Egyptian forces stormed pro-Morsi camps ... Earlier in the day, Egypt’s interim government declared a curfew in Cairo and 11 other provinces in an effort to control the deadly violence. The state of emergency is going to last for a month. "

II. President Barack Obama is the most passionate supporter of nation-wide gun control. He really believes that lives are lost whenever guns protect individual citizens.

However, in a show of sheer hypocrisy, the President declined to forbid his Secret Service agents from carrying guns. How can this be? Why wouldn't the President be more safe if everyone knew his agents did not 'pack heat'?

"After the Newtown shooting, 40,000 people signed a petition calling for the establishment of a 'Gun Free Zone' around the president. The White House this week responded, rejecting the petition and claiming Obama faces 'serious' threats every day. After 26 children were massacred in Newtown last December, pro-gun advocates launched a “We the People” White House petition, calling for Gun Free Zones and the elimination of armed guards around the president, vice president, and their families. The gun-advocates were troubled by the fact that the Obama administration wanted stricter gun control laws in wake of the shooting, while relying on heavily armed guards to protect themselves. "

Pro-Gun Advocates argued that, if owning and carrying guns was the reason we are enduring such a spate of public shootings, then the President and other members of his Administration would be more protected if they would order Secret Service agents to stop packing.

" 'Gun Free Zones are supposed to protect our children, and some politicians wish to strip us of our right to keep and bear arms', the 'We the People' petition reads. 'Those same politicians and their families are currently under the protection of armed Secret Service agents. If Gun Free Zones are sufficient protection for our children, then Gun Free Zones should be good enough for politicians'.”

It seems as though Liberal politicians want one thing for their loved ones and quite another for the common people.
